Defend Democracy in America – Election Integrity

“Democracies may die at the hands not of generals but of elected leaders – presidents or prime ministers who subvert the very process that brought them to power.”

Steven Levitsky and Daniel Ziblatt, ‘How Democracies Die’

I hope we’re not approaching a defining precipice.

As Americans, and as the United States of America, I believe we are resilient, but things have fallen faster and we are far worse than I ever imagined possible even 12 months ago. We must be exceptionally vigilant. We must actively protect our Democracy. But how? Beginning now, we must take every legal measure to vigorously defend the integrity of our elections.

What Democrats Must Do Now

As Democrats we must up our game. We must actively defend all voting laws on the books and protect and defend ballot boxes everywhere, challenge everything that doesn’t seem right or look right – especially in cities and urban areas where voter registration is often deliberately onerous and ballot box access most vulnerable. Initiate all appropriate legal defenses. And vigorously protect mail-in voting. But on Election Day eve improper vote counting is the most formidable problem Democrats face. We Democrats must do everything legal and appropriate to protect our vote in the upcoming general election November 3rd. No more Bush v. Gore debacles!

No ICE or federal agents at polling places. Or places where votes are counted.

After Our November Win – I Will Fight To

  • Defend the constitutional right to vote. Stand for strong, effective new federal law to protect voting rights and ballot access. Establish for first time a federal standard for voting in all federal elections. Enact new Voting Rights Act of 2027.
  • Undo Citizen’s United.
  • Voter ID manipulation must end as an issue. Establish Real ID with additional safety protections as National Voter ID Card. It is already the gold standard for Driver’s Licenses. Adopt Real ID as law for voting in federal elections by target date in the near future or when 85% – 95% of citizens have Real ID.
  • End gerrymandering forever. Here’s my proposal for an immutable, radical new anti-gerrymandering law that would take congressional redistricting out of the hands of politicians as long as it remains law:

Proposed new anti-gerrymandering law

  1. Make more than a single modification of Congressional Districts between mandated U.S. Censuses unlawful.
  2. Require all Congressional Districts of every state be drawn with boundaries that both i) provide for equal population as mandated by the U.S. Constitution and that ii) all Congressional District boundaries of every state span across the entire east-west breadth of every state at mandated latitude of such boundaries. Allow by law, however, that such East-West boundaries may be drawn from North to South or South to North, but require no more than 1/2-mile variance on either side as the Legislature of each such state may provide.
